2014 Design Trends

Want to stay up to date on the current design trends? We’ve done the hard work and collected all the latest trends for 2014 right here.

Flat Design

Flat design looks exactly how it sounds: flat! There are no shadows, highlights, or fancy elements. Instead, colors are used to differ between positive and negative space. Flat Design has quickly replaced skeuomorphism, which is much more realistic and three-dimensional. Flat design is everywhere: in logos, icons, and even web design.

Paired with flat design, minimalism is taking the design world by storm. It forces the user to focus on what’s necessary. We’re living in a fast-paced digital age: people want to move quickly and with ease. With minimalism, users can do just that. By getting rid of clutter, it makes it much easier to navigate and find calls to action.

Parallax Scrolling

Parallax scrolling is a method of scrolling in websites. The background images scroll much slower than the foreground, creating an interesting layering effect with depth. Parallax scrolling has become quite popular over the last few years and is staying strong in 2014. See it in action here!

“Real” Models

People want to see “real” models in advertisements and marketing materials. Major companies are starting campaigns featuring real models, of all races, shapes, and sizes, with no airbrushing whatsoever.

Large, Crisp Photographs

Whether on websites or brochures, large photos are an effective way to display your products. Bold, crisp, high-resolution photos can catch people’s attention, when used correctly. In web design, the use of a large photograph as a background is a great way to spice up your website. It displays whatever “big idea” you want your site to communicate.
